‘Sad day’ Monty Don disappoints fans as he ‘completes filming’ on Gardeners’ World

Monty Don, 66, has disappointed BBC’s Gardeners’ World fans after announcing on Twitter that filming for the show has finished for the year. Monty has presented on the show since 2003, creating a very loyal gardening fan base.

Monty tweeted the news to his 240,500 followers this evening.

He said: “Completed filming the last regular Gardeners World of the year today on a fine, dry rather warm and very autumnal day.”

Monty did take a break from presenting the show between 2008 and 2011 due to issues with his health.

In February 2008, Monty suffered a minor stroke at his home and when symptoms did not improve he went to get a brain scan.

His brain scan revealed a temporary blockage in one of his arteries to the brain and in May 2008 Monty put his career on hold to recover.

The horticulturist is very popular with the gardening community, with fans regularly reaching out to him asking for gardening tips.

He is back on the show now, stronger than ever, and has spoken candidly about his mental health issues.

Monty has suffered with depression since his mid-twenties, writing candidly about its effect on his personal life for The Observer in 2000.

He recalled “great spans of muddy time” in his life and gardening “heals me better than any medicine”.

You can watch Gardeners World on BBC Two on Friday at 8pm.
