Sacked Saints star Vaughan lands NRL lifeline

Canterbury have confirmed the signing of controversial prop Paul Vaughan on a one year contract.

The former NSW and Kangaroos representative prop will look to resurrect his career after being sacked by the Dragons for hosting an illegal gathering at his house, breaking the NRL’s biosecurity rules.

Vaughan was fined $50,000 and suspended for eight games for his actions.

The signing is viewed as a coup for the Bulldogs who boast an impressive pack for 2022. Vaughan joins new signing Tevita Pangai Jr and Luke Thompson in a forward pack that will be tipped for big things next season.

The 30-year-old played six matches for NSW and two Tests for the Kangaroos in 2018-19 in addition to 181 NRL games for the Saints and Raiders.

“Paul is someone who will bring both ability and experience to our young pack for next season,” coach Trent Barrett said.

“Everyone knows what a damaging ball-runner he is and the impact that he can have on a game and we believe that we will be able to harness that.

“I know that Paul is excited about the opportunity to come and join us and we believe that he still has a great deal to offer in the game.”
