Ronnie O’Sullivan ‘not good alone’ before rekindling romance with Laila Rouass
Ronnie O’Sullivan, 47, is known for his skills on the snooker table, however, away from the sport, he admits being quite “needy” and likes to be around people he is “comfortable with”.
The snooker champion had a tough start in life as his dad was jailed when Ronnie was just 15, and the sportsman battled subsequent problems with drugs, alcohol and depression.
However, one constant in Ronnie’s life for the past decade has been his adoring girlfriend Laila Rouass, whom he briefly split from before rekindling their romance last year.
Speaking to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, Ronnie explained: “I think I’m a needy sort of person, in some ways.
“I’m not good at being alone….I’m better when I’m around people I feel comfortable with,” he added.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Ronnie also praised Laila’s supportive nature and said he wants to see her “happy”.
He said: “She’s great. I love her. She’s great company and I love being around her.
“She’s very supportive. I have to behave myself. I know when to go, ‘Alright, you’re in charge’. But she’s also really good at going, ‘Listen, you’ve got a busy life, you’ve got a lot to do, just get on with it’.
“Now it feels a lot better – everyone’s just in a better place.
“I just want to see her and her daughter happy, and her family, who are like my family, happy.”
The legendary snooker player, 47, originally embarked on a relationship with former Hollyoaks star Laila in 2012 before confirming their engagement the following year.
But in 2022, Laila, 51 – a mother to 17-year-old daughter Inez from a former relationship with businessman Nasir Khan – announced the engagement was off.
Within weeks, however, the couple were reunited and Ronnie insists their relationship is now better than ever.
Appearing on Loose Women in April 2022, Laila told the panel how she had “manifested” Ronnie back into her life.
She said: “Me and Ronnie are back together, we found our way back. We just worked it out – back when I announced it, we hadn’t been together for almost eight months at that time.”
“He texted me and said, ‘Tell them you manifested me back into your life’.”
She added: “Talking is so underrated. If you can sit down and say how you feel and what you want – when you get older that is much easier to say too.
“He recently has been feeling flat since getting back from work, we are manifesting good thoughts and it works. He uses self-compassion.”
