Ronaldo finding it ‘difficult’ at Man United because of Rangnick’s style

Cristiano Ronaldo has found it ‘difficult’ to adapt to Ralf Rangnick’s style of play, that’s the view of one of his former Manchester United teammates.

Before Tuesday night’s visit of Brighton to Old Trafford, Ronaldo had failed to score, bar penalty shootouts, since the turn of the year.

He couldn’t hide his relief at having ended his goal drought when he gave United the lead against the Seagulls – a goal that set the hosts on the way to a 2-0 victory.

The Portuguese star’s former teammate Kleberson believes that Rangnick’s style of play has been hindering the forward.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Kleberson said: “Cristiano Ronaldo is a goalscorer, so when he isn’t scoring, there is a lot of pressure on him.

“Everyone talks about his age and his relationships with his teammates. He can do much, much more.

“He hasn’t quite adapted to the style of football that Rangnick prefers but Ronaldo is very dangerous in the final third. He wants to receive the ball, take on an opponent in a one vs one and shoot from outside the box.

“Rangnick wants Manchester United to press and win more balls in the opponents’ half but that’s not Ronaldo’s style, and that’s why he has found it difficult lately.

“I don’t believe he has problems with his teammates, and Ronaldo is still learning how the manager wants his team to play.

“He is a worker; when he is in midfield, he tries to do the best he can. It’s just a little bit hard for him because of the way Rangnick wants to play.”

Ronaldo will be hoping to see his name on the scoresheet once again against Leeds on Sunday.
