Rick and Morty is Getting a Halloween Short: Report

Rick and Morty season 5 concluded recently with an hour-long finale episode. The show is seemingly getting a new short on Halloween.

As reported by Collider, the CNschedules Twitter handle has revealed some details about the Rick and Morty Halloween special short. The short is titled The Great Yokai Battle of Akihabara and it will be a horror anime short that is based on elements of Japanese culture. Although Adult Swim hasn’t officially announced the short yet, Adult Swim Canada has revealed the logline, which reads, “Rick plans to build the ultimate AI toaster; Things take a strange turn when he and Morty are forced to travel to Akihabara for spare parts.”

It won’t be surprising to see Rick and Morty creators pay an homage to anime. Rick and Morty had previously released an anime short called Rick and Morty vs. Genocider, directed by Tower of God’s Takashi Sano. Sano had also directed the Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil) short that had elements from Evangelion and Voltron.

It should be noted that Adult Swim hasn’t officially announced the Halloween short yet, so this information should be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, since Adult Swim Canada has already listed the new Rick and Morty short, an official announcement is expected in the coming days. It remains to be seen whether the new short will be available on YouTube, similar to the previous Rick and Morty anime shorts.
