Today’s Capcom Spotlight brought an additional tidbit of news for Resident Evil 4. This news is the fact that a new demo for Resident Evil 4 is now available (previously lampshaded by Twitch ads, oddly enough). This new demo will allow players to experience the first part of the remake of the Capcom classic that set a huge precedent in gaming history without the need to worry about time limits or limited play times.
Resident Evil 4’s Chainsaw Demo allows players to get an early preview of the game as Leon S. Kennedy first enters a European village that soon turns into a nightmarish experience filled with crazed villagers. Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake also received gameplay demos ahead of their launches in 2019 and 2020. Late last month, Capcom already revealed that the upcoming remake would be receiving a demo, and now, here we are.
Here’s a brief description of the upcoming remake:
Resident Evil 4 joins Leon S. Kennedy six years after his hellish experiences in the biological disaster of Raccoon City. His unmatched resolve caused him to be recruited as an agent reporting directly to the president of the United States. With the experience of multiple missions on his back, Leon is dispatched to rescue the president’s recently kidnapped daughter.
Leon tracks her to a secluded European village. However, after making first contact, he discovers a fervor beyond reason grips the local populace. Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original while using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics. Resident Evil 4’s VR Mode has begun development as a free DLC. Please stay tuned for more information.
Resident Evil 4 will also have a titanic file size compared to its predecessors. The upcoming remake looks to be perhaps the most ambitious entry in Capcom’s series to date. It seems that will be reflected in the game’s file size, as it can weigh in at a hefty 67.2 GB, trouncing the previous record set by Resident Evil Village. Of course, file sizes vary by platform, but you can expect the new game to be around that 67 GB mark on all next-gen platforms.
The Resident Evil 4 remake is available for pre-order on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The Chainsaw Demo will be available on the aforementioned platforms as well. The game is expected to be released on March 24.
