Shawn Michaels still thinks about ‘what could have been’ if he’d stepped in a WWE ring with Eddie Guerrero.

The two Hall of Famers never got to face each other throughout their illustrious careers and the Heartbreak Kid has paid tribute to Latino Heat, who tragically died aged 38 on November 13, 2005.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘Well, I believe it speaks for itself and I certainly go back to – it’s hard for me not to think about – Eddie was an individual I never got to work with.

‘And of course it’s been so many years since, and then I hear rumblings that there was talk of that at one time, Eddie and I at WrestleMania. Nothing that ever crossed my desk, so to speak.

‘You think about what could have been in that respect. For me again, I think about those things in real life. I think about Vicky and his girls and family just dealing with that loss, and seeing them carry on all these years without him.

‘I appreciate the fact that the wrestling business, at least, remembers [him] on a regular basis, which is always a kind thing. It lets you know your impact to a community that appreciates you, and I think it’s nice to see.’

One man who’s career will forever be intertwined with Guerrero is his close friend and fellow legend Rey Mysterio, as the pair of them helped SmackDown find its identity.

‘I hate to take all the credit for the accomplishments that I’ve had because Eddie was always right there next to me,’ Rey exclusively told us.

‘I think once our fans saw us together and rise, they either me and they’d ask for Eddie, or saw Eddie and ask for me. There’s a very strong connection, and even though he’s not here, he’s here in spirit and he will always be here.’

Rey’s son Dominik also had a strong bond with Eddie behind the scenes and on-screen , including the infamous custody storyline which saw his dad and Guerrero face off in a ladder match at SummerSlam 2005.

‘Oh man. He was just such a good guy, you know? Seeing him with my dad, they were best friends,’ Dominik exclusively told us. ‘And I remember in between takes that we would do of vignettes, he would give me Twizzlers, Red Vines, Lemonheads, bunch of candy.

‘I wish he was there [at SummerSlam] that day [to see my debut]. It is what it is. We miss him, we love him. He’s one of the greatest of all time.’
