Celebrity friends of Regina King have shared their messages of condolence after the death of her son, Ian Alexander Jr, days after his 26th birthday. 

The Harder They Fall actress, 51, confirmed the news, telling People Magazine in a heartbreaking  statement: ‘Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian.

‘He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you.’

Friends and fans shared their condolences on social media, with Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Cynthia Bailey writing: ‘”HEARTBREAKING. Sending my sincerest and deepest condolences to Regina King and her family. My prayers are with you.’

Kid Cudi commented: ‘My heart hurts for Regina King and her family. God please watch over them.’

Missy Elliott wrote: ‘PRAYERS for Regina King family & Ian Alexander Sr. family. Dear LORD give them STRENGTH during this time.’

Josh Gad added: ‘My love, my prayers, my thoughts, my everything go out to Regina King and her family tonight. My heart breaks. Sending you nothing but light,’

Loni Love wrote: ‘Love you Regina King,’ adding: ‘I met Ian at Sherri Shepherd’s birthday bash.. he catered the event. Cooked and served all the food and it was delicious!!!! Such a sweet and talented young man… Rest In Peace.’

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais added: ‘My heart breaks for you Regina King, Ian was sweet & kind.’

Regina’s Where The Truth Lies co-star Maralee Matlin shared her heartbreak at the news, writing: ‘I am absolutely heartbroken for Regina King. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts.’

Ian was Regina’s only child, who she shared with ex-husband Ian Alexander Sr, 65, a record producer who she split from in 2007 after nine years of marriage.

He had followed in his dad’s footsteps and entered into the music industry, becoming a successful DJ.

Regina and Ian also had matching tattoos reading ‘unconditional love’ in Aramaic, with Ian’s on his shoulder and Regina’s on her arm.
