‘Rather subdued’: Charles and Camilla appear after Prince Harry’s memoir announcement

Yesterday the royal pair attended a service at Exeter Cathedral to mark Freedom Day.

The event was momentous given it was the first time the royals were not mandated to wear masks.

Last night, it was announced that Prince Harry is writing a tell-all memoir about his life as a royal growing up, and his decision to subsequently step back from being a senior royal with his wife Meghan.

Prince Charles and Camilla set out today on the second day of their three-day tour in the Isles of Scilly.

They are continuing to perform their usual royal duties despite the Prince of Wales’s son reportedly leaving Charles ‘blind-sighted’ with news of his memoir.

They were videoed meeting school children from the Five Islands Academy School in St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly.

Judi James, a body language expert, spoke to Express.co.uk about the couple’s behaviour when greeting the children amid all the bombshell news reports.

She said: “As enchanted as Charles and Camilla look with the small children they are meeting here, there are some small clues in their body language of some awkwardness that could possibly be prompted by the news of Harry’s newest salvo.

“Charles does bend a little to talk to one child, but it is a momentary gesture and not really his normal thing.

DON’T MISS:

“He and Camilla then perform some rather awkward-looking touch rituals, with Charles pointing his index finger out at one child while Camilla touches another’s sunglasses that were on the top of the child’s head, but which immediately fell down onto its nose.

“They both look kindly and caring but also quite a long way from their incredibly jolly and spontaneous selves that we saw on their visit the day before when they were both embracing Freedom Day with what looked like gusto.

“Here they look rather more subdued.”

The couple spent the morning and early afternoon greeting children and teachers.

They were even greeted by a crowd of well-wishers at Porthcressa Beach, despite the news from the Duke of Sussex.

Prince Harry’s news comes just months after sitting down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In the interview, he spoke about his father Prince Charles and his brother Prince William being “trapped” within the Royal Family.

He also complained about his father cutting him off financially and refusing to take any of his calls.

Relations between the father and son have soured over the past year and a half, and this unexpected news most probably shocked Prince Charles.

No official comment has been released by Buckingham Palace yet on the subject of the memoir.

Two royals who wrote memoirs in the past include the disgraced King Edward VIII and his wife Wallace Simpson.

It is unclear exactly how Charles and Camilla reacted to the news, but their body language today was a signal of carrying on as normal with their royal duties.
