Rare 90s French hatchback up for sale at auction for eye-watering amount
A RARE 90s French hatchback is up for sale at auction for an eye-watering amount.
A Renault Clio Williams, with only 41,876 miles on the clock, is up for a guide price of £30,000 – £40,000 (exc. VAT) with Silverstone Auctions.
The initial production run of the Clio Williams was limited to just 5,400 examples, of which only 390 arrived in the UK.
The auction house, Silverstone Auctions, said it’s one of the lowest mileage and the “best-preserved” example currently available.
With just 148bhp it wasn’t enormously powerful by today’s standards, although 85% of the car’s torque was available from just 2,500rpm and, with Williams only weighing-in at 981kg, it provided decent shove.
This particular model was pre-registered by Renault with zero mileage and was purchased new, along with a second example, by Clifton Garage of York.
The owner was also the proprietor of a Hyundai dealership in York, which then offered it up for sale – and it was sold to its second private owner in 1998.
The Williams was driven and maintained by him, accompanied by all invoices up until 2005 – it then went into a personal garage where it stayed until 2017 (although regularly checked on and started).
However, it was only used occasionally after 2017, covering around 1,000 miles per year.
The Renault Clio Williams can easily be distinguished by its Metallic Sports Blue paintwork, gold-finished Speedline alloy wheels and unique decals.
The car comes with the original book-pack, including the service booklet, an original PDI inspection sheet, numerous maintenance receipts and all l pre-2005 MOT Certificates present to verify the mileage.
Silverstone Auctions will auction the car next Saturday, 20th of May, at 12pm.
This comes after a classic Ford Capri in ‘time warp’ condition has been sold at auction for an eye-watering amount.
Plus, a rare Mini that was abandoned in a shed for decades has sold for more than £52,000 at auction.
