Poundland set to close more stores across the UK this month – full list

Poundland has shut down at least 12 branches across the country since February and is planning one more closure in June.

A number of stores are closing because their lease expired, and some will be relocating to other areas.

Despite this year’s closures, the retailer is currently working on a 50-store expansion plan and will be opening two stores this month and 15 more in August. Poundland’s expansion plans will create up to 800 new jobs, the company explained.

Communications Adviser at Poundland, Nick Agarwal, told Express.co.uk: “We’ve got a large estate – over 800 locations – and sadly from time to time a store closes for a number of different reasons.

“Sometimes that’s because we’re relocating to a bigger unit where we can offer more (eg our new Ipswich store which will open this summer), sometimes to consolidate in an exiting store that’s close by (eg Southport) and in some instances our lease expires and much to our disappointment, the landlord has other plans for that location (eg Kings Lynn and Stoke).
