Pochettino and Chelsea star ‘put issues behind them’ after public dressing down

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly put any issues he had with Noni Madueke behind him. The Argentine coach gave the winger a public dressing down last month after a video of him partying surfaced online.

Madueke is in the midst of his first full season as a Chelsea player. The 21-year-old former Tottenham academy ace joined from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in January for a fee of around £29million.

He scored just one goal in 12 appearances as the Blues saw out a horror second half of last season. Competition for places grew over the summer, with the arrivals of Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku.

Madueke didn’t start any of the first four Premier League matches of the season and then suffered a muscle injury while on international duty with the England under-21s. A video then emerged of him enjoying a night out at a club in Mayfair.

Pochettino spoke publicly that Madueke needs to “avoid” being in such situations and must be more professional. But Fabrizio Romano claims any issues between the pair have now been resolved.

Pochettino is claimed to have also held a private chat with Madueke to outline his requirement for players to be more serious. Madueke understood the message and took it well.

He made his return to the pitch for Chelsea’s 2-0 win at Fulham last Monday, coming on as an 89th-minute substitute. Madueke was an unused substitute for the 4-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday.

In his message to Madueke, Pochettino stressed that every member of his squad must abide by the same high standards. Reacting to the video, Pochettino said: “It is clear. This video, we were talking about that with him. I think it is a thing that we need to avoid.
