PlayStation and Xbox trade exclusives: Scorn and Stray swap places

PlayStation console exclusive Stray has been announced for Xbox Series X/S, while Xbox console exclusive Scorn is coming to PS5. Confirming earlier rumours, Microsoft has confirmed that cyberpunk adventure game Stray will make its Xbox debut on August 10. Unique horror game Scorn, on the other hand, has been given a 2023 release date for PS5. While the exact launch date is yet to be revealed, Scorn developer Ebb Software has revealed that the game will take advantage of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, the Scorn developer said that the game will utilise the controller’s haptic feedback to increase the sense of immersion.

“As we were developing the game for PlayStation 5, we finally had the opportunity to tap into the potential of the DualSense wireless controller to immerse you even further in this twisted world, extending the synesthetic experience of Scorn.

“The main character in the game interacts with the world mostly by using his hands.

“Most of these interactions are also painful for the character. That’s where haptics comes into play. The imagery offered to the player’s eyes is painful by itself, but we wanted to increase this feeling by giving a sensation to the hands holding the controller.

“Players are also able to feel the directions of haptics (left or right hand), further adding to the experience.”

The use of adaptive triggers, meanwhile, will give each tool and weapon a different sense of weight.

Finally, Ebb Software plans to use the controller’s light bar to represent health.

Currently sitting pretty with a Metacritic score of 83%, Stray is a third-person adventure game in which a cat attempts to escape a cyberpunk city.

“Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by curious droids and dangerous creatures,” reads the official description.

“See the world through the eyes of a cat and interact with the environment in playful ways. Be stealthy, nimble, silly, and sometimes as annoying as possible with the strange inhabitants of this mysterious world.

“Along the way, the cat befriends a small flying drone, known only as B-12. With the help of this newfound companion, the duo must find a way out.”
