People who suffer from musculoskeletal conditions may be able to get cash help from the Department for Work and Pensions.
Musculoskeletal conditions are injuries and disorders that affect the body’s movement or musculoskeletal system.
This includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, discs and blood vessels.
The NHS describes many of these conditions as causing pain or inflammation in the muscles, which could create challenges to live with.
Arthritis is a general term which can refer to many of these different conditions, but it also can include fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, lupus, osteoarthritis, and polymyalgia rheumatica.
People between 16 and under state pension age may be able to claim a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) to help with a musculoskeletal condition.
They must also expect their health challenges to continue for at least nine months.

PIP is currently split into two different payments to suit the needs of varying individuals.
The first is the daily living element of PIP, available to those who need help more than half the time with activities such as:
• Preparing or eating food
• Washing, bathing and using the toilet
• Dressing and undressing

• Making decisions about money
• Engaging with other people
The second element of payment is the mobility part, and this is available to those who need help going out or moving around.
It is the effect of someone’s condition, rather than the condition itself, which determines whether or not someone will be awarded PIP.
Once a person is confirmed as receiving the payment, they will receive a letter which informs them the date of their first payment, and what day of the week they will be paid.
All benefits, pensions and allowances are paid into a bank, building society or credit union account of the individual’s choice.
To claim, Britons will need to contact the PIP claims line on 0800 917 2222, and provide certain information.
The includes information such as their date of birth, contact details, bank or building society account number and sort code, their name, address and telephone number of doctor or health worker.
