Piers Morgan blasts ‘coward’ who threatened ‘to kill’ TV star and son

Police were alerted after the former host of ITV’s Good Morning Britain received a message warning him he was a “marked man”. The troll tweeted: “This isn’t a threat, Piers, it’s a promise. You’re getting killed.”

The TV star’s son Spencer, 28, a sports journalist, was also targeted in February last year. Piers wrote on Twitter: “Cowardly threats have consequences.”

Scotland Yard confirmed a man aged 43 was arrested in Manchester last August after the TV host complained about the messages. The suspect was released as inquiries continue.

Piers said: “People think it’s perfectly OK to make death threats to public figures on social media but it’s not.

“There has to be a line drawn, especially when family members are targeted.

“That’s why I reported it and I am grateful to the Metropolitan Police and Greater Manchester Police for taking it so seriously.”

The troll’s threat to Spencer was, “you’re getting it” if the attempt against his father failed.

A source close to the broadcaster said: “This is a point of principle for Piers. He will not tolerate evil threats being sent to his loved ones.

“A troll sent an unbelievably vile and graphic message to both Piers and Spencer, pledging to kill. He hopes this evil troll ends up in prison where he belongs.

“Hopefully, it’ll also act as a deterrent to other online abusers.”
