Penrith set to lose star for indefinite period

The Penrith Panthers will soon be without prop James Fisher-Harris, who will leave the NRL bubble to attend the birth of his child.

Nine’s rugby league reporter Danny Weidler revealed Fisher-Harris will take to the field on Sunday when the Panthers clash with the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, before breaking the bubble with a child on the way.

It means the Panthers will be without the Kiwi international, who will have to undergo a quarantine period and get clearance from the Queensland government to re-enter the state and link up with teammates.

“Panthers officials say James Fisher-Harris will play this week and then leave the bubble to attend the birth of his child. That will lead to another round of quarantine,” Weidler tweeted.

Weidler suggested the decision could reunite interest in Tevita Pangai Jr finishing out the year with the Panthers before a move to the Bulldogs next year.

Earlier today, it was revealed the Broncos forward wouldn’t be involved with a rumoured move to Penrith for the rest of the season.

Pangai is expected to formally ink his three-year $2.2 million deal with the Bulldogs today but it was reported that the Broncos fielded an offer from Penrith to secure the forward on a three-month deal before he moved to Belmore.

If Fisher-Harris elects to re-join his teammates following the birth of his child, there are no certainties the Queensland government will allow the Penrith prop to come back into the state.

Cronulla Sharks centre Will Chambers yesterday admitted his NRL career could be over if the Queensland government doesn’t allow him to enter the state, after he too broke the NRL bubble to attend childbirth.

Chambers has since undertaken a 14-day isolation period and is currently waiting for clearance to enter Queensland.
