For the last time this season, the age-old Yankees/Red Sox rivalry will unfold in primetime on Sunday Night Baseball.
The pregame narrative: New York has won 12 of 18 matchups this season against Boston, including each of the past five. A four-game sweep in the Bronx would really put a stamp on how different the Red Sox and Yankees’ respective seasons have been.

Red Sox vs. Yankees picks
Best bet: Yankees over 4.5 runs (+107)
Quite frankly, this is a great price on a very reasonable line for a Yankees offence that we have tons of faith in.
The Yankees are first in the AL in runs per game (5.09), and they’ve cleared this line in nine of their last 10 matchups — as well as five in a row against the Red Sox.
And over the past 14 days, New York’s offence has been particularly potent, with a 150 wRC+, 81 runs and an .879 OPS. All of those numbers lead the majors in that span.
Boston rookie Brayan Bello has turned a corner lately, with just four earned runs allowed over his last four starts (1.69 ERA). But he’s still allowed a .307 batting average so far this season, with league-average numbers in expected ERA and hard-hit rate, so we don’t expect him to be up to this task.
Bello faced the Yankees on Sept. 14, allowing three runs (none earned) on six hits over five innings. The Yankees put up five runs total in that game.
Backing the Yankees offence means backing sluggers like Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton.
As the home team, the Yankees are at risk of having only eight at-bats instead of nine. But the homer-friendly environment of Yankee Stadium gives us hope that the Bronx Bombers will clear this line regardless.
Key stat: New York has scored five-plus runs in 12 of 18 games against the Red Sox this season, including each of their past five meetings.
Quick picks
Torres over 1.5 bases (+130): Torres had half of the Yankees’ six hits off Bello earlier this month, and he’s been excellent for the Yankees throughout September. The infielder has multiple bases in 10 of his past 12 games, with a .400/.464/.780 slash line in that span.
Torres bats third for the Yankees and should have plenty of opportunities tonight.
Torres over 0.5 runs (+123): If Torres continues finding ways on base, his chances of crossing the plate will improve, too. He’s riding a 17-game on-base streak, with 14 runs scored in that span. That includes 10 games in which he scored at least once.
