Amanda Owen has opened up about how ‘tough’ it has been separating from her husband Clive in the public eye, but says life has to carry on at the farm.
The couple found fame on Channel 5’s Our Yorkshire Farm, which follows them and their family navigating life at Ravensear, near Richmond in North Yorkshire.
Amanda and Clive, who had been married for 22 years and share nine children, announced in June that they would be separating.
Addressing the split and the public scrutiny about their marriage, Amanda explained that life had to carry on as normal amid the break-up, saying during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine: ‘It does. That is reality.
‘It is really tough and it is a really difficult aspect of it to get across. But when you do reality it has to be just that. That means it covers the ups and downs and that can be on any level.’
She added: ‘Life carries on on the farm. Obviously there is a whole raft of things to do – nine children, a whole heap of animals. We are just working away same as before.
‘Because at the end of the day our priority remains, of course, to keep everything going. There you go, that’s how it is.
‘I felt like that needed to be out there so that people… There are new projects going on. There are exciting projects going on.’
Owen also told presenter Christine Lampard that their children had coped with their newfound fame well, adding: ‘They remain very, very unaffected. Because at the end of the day they don’t see their lives as anything out of the ordinary. Who does? We are literally just doing our thing.
‘Yeah, we get more opportunities, we meet more people, there are people coming to the farm. They have even been out and about with me when I have been going to theatres, doing talks. In real terms, it’s made us a whole lot busier.’
The couple had released a statement last year revealing that they were in a ‘rocky patch’ in their marriage, before announcing their split in June.
Amanda said in a statement: ‘Clive and I are sad to confirm that we have made the difficult decision to separate.
‘This hasn’t been easy, but we both believe it’s the right choice for the future of our family.’
She went on to add: ‘Although we are no longer a couple, we continue to work on the farm and co-parent together, with our number one priority the happiness and well-being of our children.
‘We would like to thank everyone for their support and would that the media please respect our privacy as we work through this difficult time. Amanda and Clive Owen.’
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
