OpenAI launches ChatGPT for iPhones in US

OpenAI on Thursday launched ChatGPT app for iPhones in the US.

The free app will later be made available for Android phones also.

Users who pay for OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus subscription can also use its most powerful large language model, GPT-4, via the app, the company said.

Unlike the web version, questions can be asked using voice.

The San Francisco-based OpenAI said the ChatGPT app for Apple’s iOS will remain ad free but “syncs your history across devices”.

“We’re starting our rollout in the US and will expand to additional countries in the coming weeks,” OpenAI said in a blog post announcing the new app.

The app can also give “guidance on cooking, travel plans, or crafting thoughtful messages,” the startup said.

ChatGPT’s powers are already available on smartphones, through Microsoft’s Bing search app, which uses technology from OpenAI.

OpenAI plans to offer its artificial intelligence chatbot app in more countries in the coming weeks.

Since its release on the web late last year, millions of people have experimented with ChatGPT and other bots — such as Bard, created by Alphabet Inc.’s Google.

The release of the app may put ChatGPT at many more people’s fingertips than the web-based version of the chatbot.

“We’re eager to see how you use the app,” the company said.

“As we gather user feedback, we’re committed to continuous feature and safety improvements for ChatGPT.”

Earlier in February, OpenAI launched a pilot subscription plan for its popular AI-powered chatbot, called ChatGPT Plus, for $20 per month.
