NSW records 182 new Covid cases

NSW has recorded another drop in coronavirus cases overnight and no new deaths in more good news for the state.

NSW has recorded another 182 cases of Covid-19 overnight and no new deaths.

In NSW so far, 94.3 per cent of the population over the age of 16 have now received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine and 91.7 per cent are double-dose vaccinated.

Meanwhile among those aged 12 to 15, 80.7 per cent have had their first dose while 74.9 per cent have had both jabs.

The number of people in hospital was listed as 191 while there were 28 in intensive care.

The numbers are a drop from when NSW reported 216 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths on Friday.

If coronavirus cases continue to fall low-risk venues such as shopping centres and cafes could be the first to abandon mandatory QR check-ins.

It comes after NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet defended the decision to continue to enforce density limits, declaring he won’t have his state “compared to Victoria”.

Almost all of Victoria’s remaining Covid-19 rules were scrapped at midnight for the fully vaccinated, including capacity and density limits in a variety of venues.

But density limits of one person per 2sq m are set to stay in NSW even when the state reaches the next phase of its reopening plan.

Mr Perrottet on Friday was asked why the rule would remain and replied by saying his state had been “leading the way to reopen”.
