Novak Djokovic labelled ‘Iron Man’ as fans left baffled by chest piece in Paris

Novak Djokovic left fans puzzled as he was seen with a round metal piece taped to his chest during his match at the French Open. The world No 3 exposed the piece as he changed his t-shirt during his match against Marton Fucsovics, and he later replaced it. It led Jim Courier to joke that he could be Iron Man as viewers took to Twitter to question what it was.

Djokovic found himself in a tussle with Fucsovics after taking an early-break lead. The two-time French Open champion was broken when he served for the first set and struggled with the wind before taking it in a tiebreak.

After needing an hour and 27 minutes to take a 7-6(2) lead, the Serb swapped his shirt during the changeover. And cameras zoomed in on a coin-shaped piece that was taped down on his chest.

“Something taped to Novak,” former pro Courier said while commentating on the match for Tennis Channel. “Have you ever seen Robert Downey Jr. in the same room as Djokovic? Maybe Novak is Iron Man,” he joked.

There was more confusion when the 36-year-old received another of the metal pieces from a ball girl, who presumably passed it to Djokovic from his team. The world No 3 removed the first one from his chest and attached the new one.

“His trainer did give the ball girl another one of these,” Jason Goodall said. The commentator noticed that Djokovic initially struggled to get to his chest, adding: “Novak a little confused as to whether to go over the top or under the bottom. He did change it in the end.”
