Nicki Minaj has been no stranger to controversy throughout her career, however her recent string of bad press won’t cause lasting damage to her career, an expert predicts.

The rap superstar came under intense backlash this year after making headlines for anti-vaccine comments and thanks to legal woes connected to her husband, Kenneth Petty.

The chart-topper then found herself being labeled a hypocrite by fans after choosing to defend collaborated Jesy Nelson amid ‘blackfishing claims’, despite previously accusing singer Miley Cyrus and other artists of cultural appropriation.

As many wondered how the recent backlash might impact the star’s career, her recent appearance on The Real Housewives of Potomac reunion appears to hint the 38-year-old has been able to weather the storm.

Crisis and PR expert Eric Schiffer tells Metro.co.uk that the Starships hitmaker has always found the best way to navigate scandals since she became a household name.

‘Nicki Minaj has controversy baked into the DNA of her bad girl brand persona,’ he explained. ‘After past scandals slammed Nicki Minaj’s career in the teeth, her brand didn’t bleed out in gushes but survived unscathed despite a heavy world media rampage.’

Schiffer, who is chairman of Los Angeles-based firm Reputation Management Consultants, continued: ‘The Barbz, the name for her devoted fans, further provides Nicki a ballast to weather recent severe storms of outrage.

‘Minaj’s profit potential won’t face any danger zones since, in rap, almost all controversy serves artists, and for Nicki, it means continued carloads of cash.’

Indeed, many Barbz were excited to discover that Nicki played a part in the RHOP reunion, however, others were less than impressed to see Bravo ignore her recent behavior.

One tweeted: ‘@Andy Please explain to me, like I’m in Kindergarten, why you’re elevating @NICKIMINAJ on @BravoTV for the #RHOP reunion? Her recent ignorant comments did a lot of damage. I just don’t get it. @GizelleBryant ???’

‘Nice to see you supporting an anti Vaxer who is being sued for harassing her husbands rape victim…this is a new low, shame on you @Andy,’ another added.

One viewer stated: ‘Ugh bad timing on this one. Antivaxxer and she’s involved in intimidating and harassing the women her now husband sexually assaulted. #ReadTheRoom @andyblackmore2013.’

‘@Andy Why would you have rape apologist & misinformed vaccine scientist Nicki Minaj at the #RHOP reunion when her husbands rape victim just did a interview talking about the harassment she’s received from those two plus all of her other antics lately?’ another commented.

The Real Housewives of Potomac airs on Bravo in the US, while it is available to stream on hayu in the UK.
