Newcastle hero Alan Shearer was not best pleased with Jonjo Shelvey after the substitute was sent off in the second half against Tottenham for two careless bookings.
The former Liverpool man entered the fray in the 60th minute, replacing fellow midfielder Sean Longstaff.
Steve Bruce was hopeful that Shelvey’s range of passing could help Newcastle find their way back into the game.
Yet the 29-year-old did not do his chance of staying at the club much good in front of Newcastle’s new owners.
He chopped Son Heung-min out of frustration to earn his first booking deep into the opposition half.

Just moments later, Shelvey would receive his marching order after hacking down Sergio Reguilon as he bared down on goal.
The leggy midfielder could not keep up with the Spaniard as he accelerated away before he was tripped.
Shelvey laid face down in the turf, knowing full well Andre Marriner was left no option but to send him off.
Bruce could be seen puffing his cheek and shaking his head as Shelvey made his way to the touchline.
“We want Brucey out,” was then belted out around the ground with Newcastle’s fans determined to make their voices heard.
Magpies icon Shearer was furious with Shelvey for his antics, hitting out at the Newcastle star on Twitter.
“Stupid stupid stupid red card,” he said, accompanied with an angry emoji.
Newcastle did pull back another goal as Eric Dier turned into his own net but Tottenham held on to secure all three points with a 3-2 victory.
