NCB’s high profile arrests to show Centre it is doing something: Sharad Pawar

The anti-narcotics cell of the state government has made comparatively bigger seizures, said NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, adding that this makes one thing clear: the state agencies are doing an honest and straight forward job, while the NCB is doing high profile arrests just to show the Centre that it is doing some thing.

“I have tried to take information about Wankhede from officials as he was posted earlier in the airport. I have come to hear some stories, but I don’t have the complete picture so I won’t speak about it,” Pawar said when asked about NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede.

The Rajya Sabha member pointed out that if you look at the seizures made by the NCB in different cases, then the quantity is ‘quite small’. “They have made seizures of small pouches in pockets or small grams,” he added.

“I am hearing about this KP Gosavi who is actually an absconder and is being searched by the Mumbai police,” said Pawar. “There should be no doubt about the character of the panch witness… his integrity and character is doubtful.”

Separately, Pawar also spoke about India’s 13th round of talks with China, saying it is a metter of concern that they have been unsuccessful. “Almost immediately we see an incident in Kashmir where five of ours army men are killed.”

“We are speaking to parties in Delhi and also with the Centre on these issues. A while ago Rajnath Singh had given a defence briefing to me and AK Antony on the China border issue. At that time we came to a conclusion that on issues of national security there cannot be any differences or politics on the issue.”
