MG Motor launches Astor at Rs 9.78 lakh, bookings start October 21

MG Motor India has launched a new model Astor priced between Rs 9.78 lakh and Rs 16.78 lakh . The five-seater SUV comes in four trims — Style, Super, Smart, and the top-of-the-line Sharp.

The model comes with two engine options, the 220

petrol engine with a six-speed AT (automatic) delivering 140ps of power and VTi Tech petrol engine with a manual transmission and an eight-speed CVT, delivering 110ps of power.

The model would compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq in the midsize SUV segment.

“The segment is highly competitive and that is why we needed to differentiate; and from that perspective, we have tried to come out with a very very compelling offering where we have many industry-first, segment-first features. The car is loaded, the car is powerful, the design is expressive,” PTI quoted MG Motor India President and MD Rajeev Chaba as saying.

The vehicle comes with a personal AI assistant and first-in-segment Autonomous (Level 2) technology with six radars and five cameras.

It also has 27 standard safety features like ESP (electronic stability program), TCS (traction control system) and HDC (hill descent control).

Six airbags, six-way power-adjustable driver seats, electric parking brake, heated ORVM, rain-sensing wiper and a panoramic sky roof are some of the other features.

Bookings start at dealerships and online on the company website from October 2. The company said customers can pre-reserve from October 11. The prices are introductory and would hold for deliveries this year.
