Melanie Chisholm – known to the world as Mel C – has lifted the lid on a fight that went down in her Spice Girls days.
The singer, 48, was part of the pop group from 1994, along with bandmates Victoria Beckham, Geri Horner, Melanie Brown, and Emma Bunton.
With any band, there are always rumours of fights but it turns out, with the Spice Girls, there actually was a physical altercation.
Fortunately, Mel – known as Sporty Spice – is able to laugh about it now, as she recalled a time when there were fisticuffs between her and Mel B aka Scary Spice.
‘I can see us in our fluffy white robes at the Four Seasons in LA, and me and Melanie were getting a bit, “Grr grr grr” after a night,’ she laughed in an interview with The Times.
‘We’d come back to the bar, we were on the port, so it was obviously one of those nights where there had been quite a few beverages.’
She added that Ginger Spice Geri tried to ‘keep the peace’ and keep the women apart.
‘She ended up getting clocked in the face!’, Mel revealed.
Oh to have been a fly on the wall in those days!
This isn’t the first time the wild antics of the Spice Girls have come to light, with Mel B previously revealing she and Victoria ‘Posh’ Beckham got into a fight in 1995.
During a group holiday to Hawaii, the fashion designer spotted Mel’s boyfriend at the time, Nalu, going to the toilet on the sand before rinsing himself off in the sea.
Victoria and Mel argued over what he had done, with VB horrified.
Mel wrote in her first memoir: ‘I ended going off with Nalu for nights on end, sleeping rough under the stars or in his little car. A proper holiday romance.’
However, the romance was killed off after Victoria saw Nalu using the beach as his own loo.
‘Doesn’t he know what a toilet is? It’s disgusting’, she told Mel.
But that isn’t all, as Mel C was actually almost kicked out of the band soon after it was formed.
While backstage at the 1996 Brit Awards, Victoria told her bandmate to ‘f**k off’, leading to an argument so bad that managers warned Mel she would have to leave the group if she continued.
Mel previously told Radio 4: ‘We’d all had a few bevvies and on the way out there was a little scuffle between myself and Victoria.
‘We can’t say this on air but I asked her to go away. I was told if that behaviour ever happened again, then I would be out.’
But all of that seems to be water under the bridge now, with the pop queens still very much friends, well into their adult lives.
In fact, they were recently teasing their fans with some potential news surrounding the 25th anniversary of their 1997 film Spiceworld.
The band posted a tweet with the hashtag ‘#Spiceworld25’, hinting at an incoming announcement marking the special occasion.
The tweet also featured the instantly recognisable branding from their second album, featuring a spinning globe updated with the new slogan.
What does it mean? Time will tell…
