Meghan Markle has more ‘power’ in America than in the UK

Meghan Markle’s body language has always oozed elegance, both when she was in the royal spotlight and now that she is no longer a senior member of the Royal Family. Body language expert Judi James spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the differences we can see in Meghan since stepping down. Has she come into her own since relocating to California?

Judi began by stating that Meghan’s body language has not done a complete U-turn since she relinquished her senior royal status.

In fact, according to the expert, she retains the same basic elegance that she was required to present.

However, mostly free from the protocols of the Royal Family, the Duchess is able to put her own slant on things.

Judi told Express.co.uk: “Despite being freed from any body language restrictions of formality or protocol once she stepped down as a senior royal, Meghan still seems to enjoy retaining a regal look of elegance and status in the US, only with an added celebrity kick.”

Since stepping down and moving to the States, Meghan’s body language displays only subtle differences, Judi claimed.

And this may be down to America’s structure and how it is run power-dynamic wise. She said: “There has been an underlying sense of being completely at home in the US though.

“Her blend of royal and celebrity is allowed a bigger promotion of her celebrity side in a country that is totally comfortable with seeing their celebrities in powerful roles in a way that we are not in the UK.”

According to Judi, the possibilities are endless for Meghan in the USA, as celebrities are given much more importance.

“The sky is the limit for Meghan in the US, a country where a celebrity from a reality show was recently in the White House.

“It’s a less cynical country in terms of the pecking order of power, where she and Harry can be admired and even adored without any of the restrictions that celebrity status would have on someone’s career in the UK.

“That reflects in both her ‘earth mother’ style of poses, lying on the grass with a barefoot Harry, and her corporate power poses that get her on the cover of business magazines.

“In the US Meghan can get to play at being whoever she chooses to be and that sense of power confidence reflects in her body language poses.”

However, it is not as if Meghan was shy and retiring during her time living in the UK with Harry as a senior royal.

Judi said: “Her confidence signals were always high in the UK, even when she was learning on the job as a newbie royal.

“She even seemed comfortable changing the narrative of royal tradition, like the way she stood beside Harry as he carried the baby Archie out to meet the press for the first time.”

Prince William and Princess Kate took turns holding baby George when they first presented him to the world’s media.

However, when Prince Harry and Meghan did the same with their firstborn Archie, only Harry appeared to hold the baby.

Meghan cradled the baby’s head, held Harry’s arm or looked lovingly at the both of them.

Judi indicated that in this Meghan subverted “royal tradition” by assuming more of a “proud dad” position.
