Chloe Zhao, director of Marvel’s Eternals, has revealed there was never anyone else in the running to play Eros other than Harry Styles.
The 39-year-old filmmaker was taken with Harry, 27, after seeing his first ever movie role in Dunkirk in 2017 and knew he was the only star who could play Eros, the brother of Thanos.
She told Deadline: ‘Harry as Eros was very much a package deal for me. I kept tabs on Harry since Dunkirk, I thought he was very interesting.
‘After meeting him I realised he is that character – the same way I cast the rest of my cast. There’s so much of Eros in him.
‘For me, if he says yes and Kevin [Feige] says yes then it’s a go. And I’m very happy they both did.’
Thankfully both Harry and the Marvel boss were on board with the casting, which was revealed in a post-credits scene in Eternals.
Harry appears in the scene in the credits alongside Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani and others from the main cast, teasing towards a future film.
With a glowing yellow sphere in his hand, Eros explains to the Eternals that he can help find their missing friends – after having a cheeky flirtatious moment with Thena.
While the first sighting of Harry might be short, he has reportedly signed a five-movie deal with Marvel, so it seems there is plenty more to come from Eros.
Eternals is the latest offering from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, telling the story of an immortal alien race who come out of hiding to protect the earth from the evil Deviants.
The film also stars Richard Madden and Kit Harington, as well as Salma Hayek.
