Marvel Pits a Venom and Carnage-Infected Miles Morales Against Deadpool
Miles Morales commands Marvel’s two most iconic symbiotes in a battle against Wade Wilson on the cover of Tom Taylor and Iban Coello’s Dark Ages #5.
A symbiote-infused Miles Morales goes up against the Merc with a Mouth in the upcoming Dark Ages #5.
The cover, illustrated by series penciler Iban Coello, shows Miles — who appears to be the host for both Venom and Carnage in Dark Ages‘ alternate future — duking it out with Deadpool. The issue teases an inevitable conflict as Spider-Man, the X-Men, Doctor Doom, the Fantastic Four and the remaining Avengers and Inhumans launch an assault on Europe, which is under the control of Apocalypse.

Dark Ages takes place in a world without electricity, thanks to a living machine known as the Unmaker that raged beneath Earth’s surface and was only defeated when Dr. Strange sacrificed himself to release a constant electromagnetic pulse across the planet. The giant E.M.P. wave left the world in a literal “dark age,” and surviving superheroes banded together in cities connected via telepaths. The most prominent of these is protected by T’Challa and his Wakanda forces.
Meanwhile, Apocalypse and a host of other villains — including the Purple Man and Doctor Octopus — converted Magneto into a living battery inside a well-guarded European fortress, giving them some control over the last vestiges of electricity. All signs indicate that Apocalypse is planning to use this power to reboot the Unmaker, and the mutant tyrant kidnapped Tony Stark in Issue #2, forcing him to assist in his foul plans. Issue #3 ended with a coalition of heroes assembling a strike force in order to stop Apocalypse.
Thus far, Dark Ages‘ grim alternate reality has seen the deaths of many key Marvel characters, the introduction of a new Spider-Girl and inspired spins on classic characters, including a vampire-hunting crew assembled of X-Men and Avengers.
Miles Morales’ unique symbiote form in the series has been hinted at since early previews, and he first appeared in the finale of Issue #1 as a character allied with Apocalypse, alongside the likes of Reed Richards, She-Hulk and Beast. He appeared again in Issue #3, pledging to hunt down any intruders who might attack Apocalypse’s base.
Deadpool’s appearance on the cover of Issue #5 marks Wade Wilson’s entry into the series, and his duel with Miles indicates that the wisecracking mercenary may be allied with the team working to overthrow Apocalypse and his forces.
Written by Tom Taylor and Coello, Dark Ages #5 hits comic book store shelves in February.
