Marcus Rashford’s view on Man Utd exit with Harry Kane in their sights

Marcus Rashford is not thinking about a potential move away from Manchester United as Erik ten Hag continues to mull over an expensive pursuit of Tottenham marksman Harry Kane at the end of the season, according to reports. The Red Devils are reportedly keen on improving their forward line by adding a new talisman to their ranks in Kane, while they have also drawn up plans to tie Rashford down to a longer-term contract over the coming months.

United confirmed in December that they had triggered the one-year option on Rashford’s existing deal but are now said to be exploring the idea of an entirely new contract amid his incredible form over the course of this season. The England ace has chipped in with 27 goals in all competitions since the beginning of the campaign and is seemingly determined to find an agreement with United that would see him commit his long-term future to his boyhood club.

Rashford is not considering the possibility of moving elsewhere as things stand, according to The Times, with all parties still confident that a deal will be struck before the season draws to a close. Talks are expected to take place over the next few weeks, with Rashford set to find himself in a strong position to negotiate improved terms given his excellent record for the Red Devils as of late.

He is said to be angling for a higher salary than the £250,000 per week that he currently earns, which is only logical when his prolific recent form in front of goal is taken into consideration. Other reports on Wednesday suggested that Rashford had asked for his wage to be doubled in order to entertain the prospect of signing a new deal, although the man himself was quick to shoot down the claims with a brief correction via Instagram.

“Another non-story flying around about me and my advisors making demands,” wrote Rashford on his story. “It’s complete nonsense! My aims and the club’s aims are to finish as high as possible in the league and to try and win a cup or two.”

It seems as though Rashford’s future is likely to be resolved before the end of the current campaign, although Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly circling and could look to take advantage in the event of a hurdle in discussions with United’s hierarchy. The French giants tried to bring him to the Parc des Princes earlier this season, according to The Athletic, and are said to have kept tabs on the situation in recent weeks in order to prepare for another potential approach in the summer.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan recently warned Rashford that he may risk letting himself down if he ultimately decides against signing a new deal at United, who have stood by him in spite of his persistent injury problems and lack of goalscoring form in seasons gone by.

“If he’s got any integrity, which is a word that doesn’t often belong in football, he should be signing a new contract with Man United because they’ve been carrying him for 18 months,” said Jordan.

“He didn’t do anything for the last 18 months. You can point the finger at the manager at Man United, which I do because I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was laughable in his management of those players. He brought a culture in which was like a Butlins holiday camp where the club was doing them a favour allowing them to play and not the other way around.

“There has to be a balancing act. If he’s a Manchester United academy product and understands the opportunity that was given to him and some of the patronisation he’s had over the last 18 months, he’ll sign a new contract, get a new bumper pay rise and commit his future to Man United. That’s what he should be doing.”
