Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is set to deliver a blow to Manchester United’s transfer plans as he intends on moving to Spain this summer.

The Uruguayan has been earmarked as a priority for Erik ten Hag, who sees the forward as a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 22-year-old netted 34 times in 41 matches for Benfica this term and the Portuguese giants are realistic about their chances of keeping the Uruguay international.

Benfica have reluctantly put a £65m price tag on Nunez and United are prepared to pay the fee, feeling that he will be worth at least twice that in years to come.

But the Telegraph claim that United’s chances are fading by the day, with Nunez increasingly likely to move to Spain.

Real Madrid are seeking a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema and have money to spend after their failure to land Kylian Mbappe.

Barcelona are also keen on signing a new forward, though their priority remains Bayern Munich ace Robert Lewandowski.

Nunez’s determination to move to Spain is in part down to his desire to play Champions League football.

Liverpool have been touted as a possible destination for Nunez in England but though they’d offer Champions League football, the forward’s playing time is less guaranteed at Anfield given the competition for places.
