Man Utd ‘make progress’ with Zinedine Zidane but his wife causes appointment problem

Manchester United have reportedly made progress in their pursuit of Zinedine Zidane but his wife’s lack of interest in moving to Manchester could prove to be another stumbling block. The Red Devils are expected to stick with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for now despite a rocky campaign that has already seen him survive a number of unacceptable results by the club’s standards.

Yet United’s lack of attractive options on the table appears to have kept Solskjaer in the job.

Antonio Conte was briefly considered before Tottenham swooped to appoint the Italian earlier this month.

Reports in the last few days appear to suggest United are making inroads in their attempt to entice Zidane back into management.

Zizou is currently enjoying some rest and family time after stepping down as manager of Real Madrid at the end of last season.

But more importantly, it’s believed his wife Veronique is not attracted to the idea of living in Manchester.

It’s said she would prefer her husband to take an extended break before taking on his next job.

United have one of the best squads in world football and outside of Ronaldo and Varane, there are plenty of links to Zidane.

Paul Pogba for instance is a player he tried to sign on many occasions during his time with Real Madrid.

The France international has always been clear that it was his dream to work under his idol at Real Madrid, a move that never materialised.

Pogba is believed to be assessing United’s managerial situation before he decides on signing a new contract.

His current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and his future remains up in the air.

Mino Raiola would prefer him to leave the club but if Solskjaer is sacked, Pogba is said to be open about signing an extension.
