Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addresses sack claims after West Ham victory

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened up on the pressure that he comes under as head coach of one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, with his future often a hot topic of discussion.

There were some calls for Solskjaer to be axed after a disappointing 2-1 loss to Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League in midweek.

Jesse Lingard’s error at the death undone his side’s hard work and got their European campaign off to a losing start.

The United midfielder made amends for his mistake by firing in a stunning winner as the Red Devils beat West Ham 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.

And Solskjaer then joked about the calls for him to be sacked after one poor result.

“Five games into the season, I was probably down and out and lost my job yesterday,” Solskjaer laughed. “That’s with the way it is at Man Utd.

“We deserved three points. it’s a hard place to come, hopefully, these points can make a difference.”

Said Benrahma put West Ham with a heavily deflected strike after half an hour at the London Stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo equalised five minutes later when he dispatched Bruno Fernandes’ cross at the second attempt.

Lingard came off the bench to net a stunning winner with just a minute left on the clock.

“We played some very good football, created good chances, we pressed them into making loads of mistakes. Luckily, David saves that penalty at the end.

“I’ve seen Mark Noble score so many penalties, you did feel down and out and expected to come home with one point but luckily David has continued his good form.”
