Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume no Tojimari Anime Film Releasing in Indian Cinemas

Makoto Shinkai’s latest film, Suzume no Tojimari – or known simply as Suzume – is set to release in India through PVR Cinemas. There is no release date and locations mentioned for India yet.

Suzume has already been a huge success in Japan. It opened at #1 on November 11, 2022, and sold 1.33 million tickets and earned 1.88 billion yen (about $13.49 million) in its first three days.

Fans of Shinkai’s work in India will surely be excited for the release of Suzume in India. Indian fans rallied for the director’s film Weathering with You to be released in the country. It got so much traction that Shinkai himself visited India and attended the film’s screenings.

His newest work, Suzume, follows the story of a 17-year-old girl named Suzume, who lives in a quiet town in Kyushu and encounters a mysterious young man searching for a door. After following him, Suzume discovers a weathered door in the ruins of the mountains and is drawn to it. As she touches the door, it opens and Suzume finds herself in a world where doors are opening all over Japan, bringing with them disasters. It is now up to Suzume and a group of others to close the doors and save the world from destruction.

Suzume has been praised by critics, and the film’s release will continue the recent trend of major anime films seeing official cinematic releases in India.
