Makoto Shinkai To Visit India For Suzume’s Release

Makoto Shinkai has announced that he will be visiting India to promote his upcoming film Suzume.

The acclaimed Your Name and Weathering With You director’s newest film is seeing a cinematic release in India, and it is one of the most anticipated anime films releasing in the country.

Shinkai revealed his plans to visit the country along with Thailand next week on his Twitter account on April 6, 2023, in response to delaying his Twitter Spaces session.

“Upon returning to Japan, I caught a slight cold,” he wrote on his Twitter. “Although it’s nothing serious, we have visits to Thailand and India planned for next week with the Suzume team, so for safety’s sake, I will have to postpone the Spaces session. I was also looking forward to the live stream after a long time… but I apologise! We will do it again soon.”

This is not the first time that Shinkai has visited India. He previously visited the country during the premiere of his film Weathering With You in 2019, which happened after fans rallied for the film to be released and signed a petition requesting Shinkai, Toho Distribution, and PVR to screen the film in India. The petition got 56,000 signatures and this caught the attention of Shinkai, who thanked his fans for all the support.

As for Suzume, the film is set to release in India on April 21. However, two weeks before the film’s release, special fan screenings across some cities will be held on April 9. You can check out what IGN had to say about Suzume in its review of the film here.
