‘Lovely’ seaside destination has ‘outstanding’ and ‘secluded’ beach

While the majority of tourists heading to Cumbria go to the Lake District, the area also has a stunning coastline.

According to new data released by Airbnb, one of the UK’s top trending seaside destinations is Allerdale in Cumbria. Although Allerdale Borough Council was abolished in 2023, many people still know the area under its former name. Allerdale now falls under the Cumberland authority.

Tourists heading to the Allerdale region will be able to explore the Solway Coast and several pretty coastal towns.

One of the area’s top rated seaside towns is charming Silloth, a former Victorian seaside resort.

Silloth is also home to one of the region’s best golf courses and has been described as a birdwatchers’ paradise.

One of Allerdale’s best rated beaches is Powillimount beach which is located in the Silloth area.

A tourist ‘DevoSteve’ wrote: “Lovely secluded beach with great rock formations and cave-like arches.”

Another tourist ‘Marta Z’ wrote: “Outstanding beauty beach with rocks. A beautiful, unique place to visit!”

Amanda Cupples, general manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb, said: “Brits are continuing to appreciate what’s on their doorstep this year and returning to the Great British seaside destinations.

“We’re also seeing people travelling to lesser-known parts of the country, with holidaymakers seeking unique experiences along untrodden paths.

“As coastal areas across the UK are returning to their roots, catering for a lively summer season as they used to generations ago.”
