Jordan Henderson has completed his £12million move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq – bringing to an end his 12-year Liverpool career.

He has signed a three-year deal with his new club, who are managed by his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, and is set to earn around £700,000-a-week.

The 33-year-old emerged as a shock target for the Saudi Pro League who have already signed many stars from across the Premier League this summer.

Former teammate Roberto Firmino joined Al-Ahli on a free earlier in the window, while Fabinho is expected to move to Al-Ittihad for £40m.

Henderson departs Anfield a club legend having served the Reds well for more than a decade, including eight years as captain.

The midfielder joined Liverpool in 2011 from boyhood club Sunderland for a fee of around £16m, starting in the League Cup final victory over Cardiff in his maiden season.

In 2015, he was chosen to take on the famous armband following Gerrard’s departure and in the following years lead the club to great success under the management of Jurgen Klopp.

They won their first ever Premier League title, and their first league title since for 30 years, in 2019/20, with Henderson named FWA Footballer of the Year, as well as an FA Cup/League Cup double in 2022.

During his captaincy, Liverpool also became a powerhouse on the European stage once again, winning their sixth Champions League in 2019, as well as reaching the finals in 2018 and 2022, losing to Real Madrid on both occasions.

He has also won the Club World Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup.

In all, he made 492 appearances for the Reds, scoring 33 goals and making 61 assists.

It remains to be seen how the transfer will affect Henderson’s international career as he has been a key part of the England set-up for many years, with 77 caps to date, helping Gareth Southgate’s side reach the final of Euro 2020 and semi-finals of World Cup 2018.
