Lineker slammed in brutal NHS comparison as allies called to leave BBC

Gary Lineker has been brutally torn apart by Simon Jordan at a time when many NHS workers are striking across the country. The BBC presenter recently refused to back down after criticising the government for their new immigration policy. Match of the Day colleagues rallied round the former Leicester and Tottenham striker – but the controversy continues to rumble on.

Lineker recently hit out at the government and their new asylum policy, insisting the Conservatives were using language compatible to the 1930s.

He was taken off air for his stance, which prompted a big revolt within the BBC with many of his colleagues rallying in his defence.

Ian Wright and Alan Shearer were among those to effectively go on strike, disrupting the broadcaster’s coverage of the weekend’s football in the process.

And Jordan, writing for the Daily Mail, has now torn into Lineker and his colleagues for their actions – insisting it is ‘self-righteous’ of them to adopt such a stance when NHS workers are striking around the country.

“They had no real reason to come out in support of Lineker,” he said.

“The BBC and the seemingly incompetent director general Tim Davie’s problem was with Lineker, not them.

“The next generation of football fans and the much-worried-about future viewers don’t even know anything about Wright or Shearer anyway – they played 20 years ago for goodness sake.

“So if they want to be clever and down tools then out you go.

“You can reap your own individual whirlwinds. This is how big business works.

“You might not think it’s particularly kind, you might not think it’s particularly generous, but in a real world devoid of indulged sentimentality and idealism, these guys have overstepped the mark.”

Jordan also thinks Lineker doesn’t speak for the country, either, and labelled the presenter a ‘champagne socialist’.

“So please, let’s not pretend Lineker is the emotional heartbeat of this country. If he is, then we need a bypass,” he said.

“And to all those who so bravely stood with the country’s most famous champagne socialist, perhaps it’s time for the next generation to step in and replace them, permanently.

“It might save the taxpayer a few quid too.”
