Lewis Hamilton refuses to take blame for Max Verstappen crash at British Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton got on team radio to ask whether Max Verstappen was harmed in the heavy crash into the tyre wall after they collided on the first lap of the British Grand Prix. Hamilton and Verstappen were locked in a fascinating duel early on in the sprint race on Saturday with the Dutchman getting the better of his championship rival.

It meant Hamilton was pushed down to second on the grid behind Verstappen for Sunday’s race.

But he had the same advantage Verstappen had on Saturday by having the inside line.

And he got off to a better start on Sunday as he got up alongside Verstappen heading into the first corner.

The two championship contenders were racing wheel-to-wheel before Hamilton took advantage of the slipstream coming through Woodcote.

But they touched as Hamilton came up the inside and Verstappen turned in, with the Red Bull driver flying off into the gravel and slamming into the tyre wall.

Hamilton was immediately on team radio saying he had damage and needed to come in.

However, the race was soon red flagged while Verstappen had medical attention while getting out of his car.

Hamilton later asked whether Max was “okay” before claiming on team radio that he was ahead and he had the racing line.

“I was ahead going in there. Pulling alongside, it was my line,” said Hamilton over the team radio.

“He turned in on me, man, Giving the guy space.”

But Red Bull team principal Christian Horner made his feelings clear for Michael Masi after watchign replays of the incident.
