Genshin Impact developers HoYoverse have released a new series on their channel called Gourmet Tour with its first episode called Liyue’s Cuisine Collection Issue No. 1. The video teaches how to make the in-game dish Slow-Cooked Bamboo Shoot Soup in real life.
The Slow-Cooked Bamboo Shoot Soup is a recovery dish with three-star rarity that is Zhongli’s speciality. It restores 34% Max HP if given to a character and regenerates 980 HP every 5 seconds for 30 seconds. The official in-game description of the dish is as follows:
“Zhongli’s specialty. The ham is a butt end selected according to Yuehai Pavilion’s gourmet standards. The fresh meat is pork belly, freshly hunted in Springvale, while the bamboo shoots are the densest you’ll find in Qingce Village. It is then heated, slowly, gently, and with the utmost care and technique… Such a “particular” taste may only be shared with those who know how to appreciate it.”
The recipe video goes into some lore and background of the dish and involves working with real spring bamboo shoots. Unlike the in-game dish that can be cooked only with Raw Meat, Ham, and Bamboo Shoot ingredient items, the real-life equivalent consists of cured pork belly, ginger, chicken, pork bones, baijiu (a Chinese liquor) also go into the dish. To celebrate Zhongli’s birthday in 2020, the recipe of the dish was published on the official Chinese website of Genshin Impact.
The developer created a culinary series earlier too with their game Honkai Impact 3rd called Cooking with Valkyries. However, it was an anime-style miniseries consisting of ten episodes.
