Leafs star Mitch Marner carjacked at gunpoint in Etobicoke
Toronto Maple Leafs star winger Mitch Marner “is OK, just rattled,” after he was carjacked in Etobicoke on Monday.
Toronto police said that the carjacking happened at about 7:45 p.m. Monday at the Queensway and Islington Avenue, near Cineplex Cinemas, where the suspects stole Marner’s Black Range Rover at gunpoint, multiple sources confirm to the Star Tuesday.
Investigators said three suspects, armed with two handguns and a knife, carjacked the Range Rover, then fled.
No one was injured in the incident.
Toronto police have not officially named the victim of the carjacking, but multiple sources confirm to the Star that it was Marner.
The news that Marner was the victim of the carjacking was first reported by the Toronto Sun.
Marner was expected to speak Tuesday as part of the team’s final media availability at locker clean-out day to wrap up the 2021-22 season.
Marner’s agent, Darren Ferris, said the player would issue a statement later.
Marner, from Richmond Hill, is one of the team’s biggest stars and one of the NHL’s highest-paid players, earning more than $10 million a year.
