Latest covid infection rates as four Greater Manchester boroughs see cases rise

Coronavirus infection rates have continued to rise in four out of the ten boroughs in Greater Manchester.

Salford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in the whole of the county, with a rate of 430.5 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending November 25.

The latest data from the UK Health Security Agency has revealed that the lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 303.4 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 373.2 cases per 100,000 population.

However this is significantly lower than the national average of 429.1 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 10,584 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on November 25.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 100 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was up 1 per cent in the last week..

The infection rate is lower than the national average in all ten local authorities in Greater Manchester.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on November 21, a total of 210 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 43 fewer than the week before, a fall of 26 per cent.

On Tuesday November 23, there were 33 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is eight fewer than a week earlier.

This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions, the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.

Deaths

In the week ending November 25, a total of 33 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 23 fewer than the week before.

Salford

In Salford, there were 1131 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending November 25, which is 64 more than the previous 7 days.

Salford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Salford is down slightly compared with the previous day but the week-on-week trend is up by six per cent.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 721 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending November 25, which is 29 more than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 303.4 cases per 100,000 people and is up by four per cent week-on-week.

Manchester

Manchester is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 318.3 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 1769 cases recorded in Manchester, which is 18 fewer than the previous week – a fall of one per cent.

Tameside

There was a fall of seven per cent in cases in Tameside over the week ending November 25, and the infection rate is now 381.3 cases per 100,000 population.

Tameside recorded 866 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 68 fewer than the previous week.

Bolton

In Bolton, the number of cases is down by 11 per cent compared to the previous week – leaving the infection rate at 325.1 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 937 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending November 25, which was 117 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Wigan

The trend is down in Wigan, where there were 1314 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending November 25, which is 7 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 1 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Wigan is 397.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Rochdale

In Rochdale, the latest infection rate is 420.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by four per cent.

A total of 940 people tested positive for Covid in Rochdale over the seven days ending on November 25, which is 42 fewer than the week before.

Trafford

There were 1007 positive tests over the last week in Trafford, which is 71 more than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Trafford is up by eight per cent and the latest infection rate is 423.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Bury

Bury recorded 758 coronavirus cases, which is 11 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Bury is 397.5 cases per 100,000 people and that is down one per cent week-on-week.

Stockport

Stockport saw a total of 1141 cases in the week ending November 25, which is 199 more than the previous week. That is a rise of 21 per cent.

In Stockport, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 387.8 cases per 100,000 people.
