Langer resigns as Australian coach
Australian men’s cricket coach Justin Langer has resigned from his post, effective immediately.
Langer’s future had been up in the air for several months, with almost constant speculation over whether or not he would not be offered a new contract.
Langer was appointed into the role in May 2018, when Darren Lehmann stepped down following the ball tampering scandal in South Africa.

Langer’s management company DSEG published a short statement on social media.
“DSEG confirms that our client Justin Langer has this morning tendered his resignation as coach of the Australian mens cricket team,” it read.
“The resignation follows a meeting with Cricket Australia last evening. The resignation is effective immediately.”
During the 2020-21 summer reports of unease among the Test playing group towards Langer first surfaced – reaching a point where the situation required mediation between the coach, Pat Cummins, then-Test captain Tim Paine, and limited overs captain Aaron Finch.
Langer’s contract was set to expire after Australia’s tour of Pakistan, but he said repeatedly that he would not be travelling if his contract situation had not been resolved.
