Koo’s Twitter handle for VIP queries suspended

Koo’s Twitter handle for VIP queries suspended

Twitter on Friday suspended @kooeminence, one of homegrown microblogging platform Koo’s Twitter handles. The account had been set up only a few days back to focus on queries from celebrities and VIPs wanting to use Koo. The Indian platform’s founders told ET they haven’t been informed about the reason for the suspension. The said handle had not tweeted even once, one of them told ET.

“We have no idea why the handle is suspended. No explanation has been given,” said Koo cofounder-CEO Aprameya Radhkrishna.

On Twitter, Radhakrishna tweeted, “One of the Koo handles on Twitter just got banned. For what?! Because we compete with Twitter? So? Mastodon (another Twitter competitor) also got blocked today. How is this free speech and what world are we living in? What’s happening here @elonmusk?”

Speaking to ET from San Francisco, Mayank Bidawatka, another Koo cofounder, said that he was concerned about Koo’s other Twitter handles, some 10-15 in number, being suspended. “We have no idea why this account was suspended. We’re going to write to Twitter and figure out why. I’m even worried about our other accounts being suspended because today Mastodon was also suspended for no reason. We cater to queries from our users on these Twitter accounts. We have multiple accounts for countries like India and Brazil, and also for grievance redressal,” Bidawatka said.

@KooforBrasil has 214,700 followers while @KooAppIndia has 5,297 followers. Bidawatka also said that he was unable to log in to @KooforUSA. When ET checked this handle, the Twitter page said, “This account doesn’t exist.”

“@kooeminence had zero tweets. Why would it be suspended? We started it to cater to VIPs who may have queries about Koo,” Bidawatka said, adding that Twitter accounts get suspended on account of dormancy only after several years.

Globally,
Twitter also suspended the accounts of several tech journalists, including one each from CNN and The New York Times.
