King Charles’ poignant node to Meghan Markle during Joe Biden’s UK visit

King Charles III appears to have made a subtle yet special nod to his youngest son Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle during Joe Biden’s visit to the United Kingdom on Monday.

The monarch welcomed the President to Windsor Castle, where a meeting was held to discuss the climate emergency with participants of the Climate Finance Mobilisation forum.

The discussion, which included a host of participants from each side, reportedly went over time because Mr. Biden and the monarch got along famously.

The King then invited his American guest to his White Drawing Room to view the Royal Collection, related to previous presidents of the United States.

It is at the next stage of the visit that the King gave Harry and Meghan a nod, as he brought the President to the Green Drawing Room.

The room is of significance to the Royal Family as it was chosen as the backdrop for the official images of Meghan and Harry’s wedding.

The newlyweds sat among family members for their official portraits after exchanging vows in front of 600 guests in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Palace.

Pictures from the day show Harry and Meghan posing alongside the late Queen, the late Prince Philip, Kate Middleton, and Doria Ragland.

In 2019, the Green Drawing Room once again served as the backdrop for Archie’s christening photos, following an intimate service at Windsor Castle’s private chapel.

The space is famously decorated to the taste of George IV, who took a personal interest in the furnishings of the room in the 19th century.

It has previously been described by the Royal Collection Trust as “the most spectacular and architecturally distinguished of the new reception rooms”.

Due to its size, the Green Drawing Room has always been regarded as a small reception room, except when it is used for Privy Council Meetings.

Other occasions that have been commemorated in the room include the Golden Jubilee in 1887 when Queen Victoria was painted there.
