Kempsey, Albury tips: Rifle shooting for another Cup win

Oh Say to kick-off the day on the right note while Camp Rifle can land another feature in the Kempsey Cup. BEST BETS, INSIDE MAIL

Daily Telegraph form analyst Matt Jones gives his best bets and runs the rule over the Quaddie legs at Kempsey and Albury.

The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. Find a winner here!

KEMPSEY

BEST BET

Race 1, No.2: OH SAY

She’s raced here once before for a win and staying undefeated wouldn’t surprise because she’s always been a pretty consistent type who can be relied on to run well.

NEXT BEST

Race 7, No.5: CAMP RIFLE

He’s been flying for a while now and all he’s got to do is hold that form and he’ll give this a real shake.

QUADDIE

Race 5: 1, 2, 7, 10

Race 6: 1, 3, 4, 9

Race 7: 1, 3, 4, 5

Race 8: 3, 4, 6

TRAINER TO WATCH

Kris Lees has Think Free in the Cup while Noble Flame and Apache Blue look like top hopes in the third and fifth races.

ALBURY

BEST BET

Race 2, No.2: ALBERT THE CAT

He’s really been hitting the line of late and looks ready to grab another win and going up to 1400m now might just help him get over the line in first.

JOCKEY TO WATCH

Shaun Guymer gets on good hopes like Shelby Sixtysix, Bell’s Innocent and Mortal Witness so he’s in line to have a good day out with a bit of luck.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR KEMPSEY

RACE 5

Forgive Mosh Vain for his 13th placing last start. He was caught wide without cover the whole way and that won’t be the case today from a much better gate. He’s racing well enough to completely reverse the last start result and isn’t in the hardest race. Apache Blue will probably push forward from a wide gate and give a good sight and hopefully not be vulnerable late. Lord Jaysea comes back in trip which probably isn’t a bad thing for him and the three weeks between runs should’ve helped freshen him up enough and he’d like some rain. There should be enough give in the track though.

Bet: Mosh Vain to win

RACE 6

Party Host carries the top weight but despite that he still gets into this pretty well and he’s been racing in better events than this and is better suited coming up to this trip at a track where he’s undefeated at from two starts. Laphroaig will obviously run this out after winning over 2220m last week and he’s proved in the past that he can race very well when stepping back in trip. Battle Guardian is back from a Highway race and before that ran in a Port Macquarie Cup and had good form leading up to it and he loves this trip and gets a soft run from the barrier.

Bet: Party Host to win

RACE 7

Camp Rifle has been in fine form for a while now and missed a run at Moree when the meeting was abandoned but this is a good alternative and Matthew McGuren has a good relationship with him and will ride him neutral from a wide gate and have the last crack at them. Mister Smartee is a frustrating horse who just pops and wins one out on nowhere like he did last start. Can he go back-to-back though? He never has in his 52-start career. Think Free has a class edge on most of these and wasn’t far off the winner in a Group 3 race three runs back.

Bet: Camp Rifle to win

RACE 8

Schiller Bay is dropping back from 1210m which should be seen as a positive and gets the gun run from the inside gate and may even lead this if he wants. Tallis is a Highway winner and comes back in grade so must be respected. Pace Stick is a lightly-raced five-year-old and does race well fresh and there’s no doubt that his connections will be confident about him winning this. Gold Rhapsody will appreciate getting her toe into the ground here and is a real 1000m specialist who is racing pretty well without winning.

Bet: Schiller Bay to win

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR ALBURY

RACE 5

Deep Space went down as an odds-on pop first-up off a very long break so he deserves another chance and he’s by Deep Field and they’re usually swimmers so he should get conditions to suit. The wide gate is the concern. Zoulon is fresh over 900m which isn’t his usual trip but it might not be a bad ploy by the team being a free-running type. Luna Glide gets in with the low weight and she ran well above her odds here for a new trainer and she’s drawn to get the run of the race in behind the speed and get the last crack at them.

Bet: Luna Glide to win

RACE 6

Controversial Miss just got beat last start when sent out at even money but she’s peaking now third-up and has the gate speed to get across and be up there with the front runners and the extra fitness level should see her to the line strong enough to win. Destiny’s Ghost ran well above her odds first-up and only looks better suited to this trip. They looked to hide Boxing Day pretty well in his barrier trial when going well in seventh spot and the barrier (5) only helps on debut.

Bet: Quinella 1, 6

RACE 7

Bell’s Innocent is fresh here and was racing in stronger races than this last time in but he might need this run before he’s a winning hope. His class takes him a long way. Halo Warrior wants a drying track while Halcyon Dame looks to be enjoying life in his new stable and three of her four wins to date have been on heavy tracks. Bezazzalled drops in grade which gives him a chance but it’s been a while since a win.

Bet: Halcyon Dame to win

RACE 8

Mortal Witness will be right on the speed and has a second-up win to her name already so it’s hard to imagine her not being in the finish despite the wide draw. Riddlero has drawn better so should be able to sit on the speed without using up as much petrol and showed plenty of ticker to win his second start. Baledon probably would’ve won first-up had it been over 1100m so things shape up well from him here and he won second-up last time in so expect him to benefit off his last effort.

Bet: Baledon to win
