Kate Ferdinand gives birth to a daughter with husband Rio

Former TOWIE star Kate Ferdinand has confirmed via social media that she has given birth to her second child with ex-Manchester United player, Rio.

The 32-year-old took to Instagram today (Sunday 16 July) to update her 1.4 million followers with the fantastic news.

She posted a sweet black-and-white image of her newborn daughter’s hands.

In the picture, the baby’s face was not visible, but she could be seen wearing a white onesie and had her fingers wrapped around what looked to be both her parents’ hands as well as some of her siblings’.

In the caption of the snap, she wrote: “Shae Ferdinand. 10.7.23 Our strong little girl.”

Following the post, a host of celebrity friends were quick to flock to the comments section of the update to lend their support and congratulate the new mum and Rio, 44.

Former Love Island star Montana Brown wrote: “Congrats gorgeous.”

Amber Dowding wrote: “Congratulations to you all my lovely.”

Clinical psychologist Dr Martha said: “Congratulations Kate. Gorgeous name. I hope you are resting and being well looked after. Sending you all my love.”

Former England Lioness Fara Williams has also commented on the post by simply writing: “Congratulations” followed by a red heart emoji.

While many of the famous faces are Kate’s former co-stars and close friends, the official Manchester United Instagram page has been on Rio’s side and commented on the post with a simple, “Congratulations”.

The ex-defender played for The Red Devils between the years of 2002 to 2014.

Shae is the couple’s second child as they are also parents to their two-year-old son, Cree, who was born in 2022.

As well as the youngsters, Kate is also the step-mum to Rio’s three children – Lorenz, 16, Tate, 14, and Tia, 11. He shared the trio with his former wife, Rebecca Ellison, who died in 2015.

Speaking about becoming a step-mum to the Rio’s kids, the 32-year-old said: “I went from being a single, carefree girl to a step-mum-of-three. And these kids have gone through so much, and there’s grief. It’s all a bit of a blur.”

Appearing as a guest on Anna Richardson’s It Can’t Just be Me podcast, Kate also admitted that it is, “hard to know what you’re getting into sometimes until you’re actually in it.

“Until you’re in it, you don’t really realise. I felt a little bit shocked, I didn’t really know how to parent.”
