Jonah Hill to team up with Martin Scorsese again for Grateful Dead biopic

Jonah Hill has found his next gig.

The Oscar nominee will be joining forces again with “Wolf of Wall Street” director Martin Scorsese for a new project.

Scorsese, 79, will be at the helm of the untitled Grateful Dead biopic for Apple TV+ with Hill, 37, starring as band leader Jerry Garcia, according to Deadline.

Grateful Dead band members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann will executive produce along with Garcia’s daughter, Trixie. Due to the rock group’s heavy involvement, Apple will be able to use the band’s music in the film.

The group’s origins go back to 1965 in San Francisco’s Bay Area. After releasing their self-titled debut album in 1967, they became symbols of the counterculture movement and their fans have come to be known as “Deadheads” over the years.

However, tragedy struck in 1995 when Garcia passed away at the age of 53 from a heart attack at a drug-treatment facility. Before his death, he recorded 13 albums with the band.

In 2017, the iconic musician’s guitar was sold for over $1.9 million at auction. The guitar — aptly named “Wolf” — was previously owned by mega-fan Daniel Pritzker, who bought the instrument in 2002 for $790,000.

“I’ve been a fan of the Dead since I was a kid, and playing this iconic guitar over the past 15 years has been a privilege,” Pritzker said at the time. “But the time is right for Wolf to do some good.”

The upcoming musical film is not the only time Scorsese has been involved with a Grateful Dead project. He previously produced the 2017 documentary about the group, “Long Strange Trip.”

Hill will next be seen in the Adam McKay satirical black comedy “Don’t Look Up,” which will be hitting Netflix come Dec. 24.

The funnyman will also be producing the Grateful Dead project alongside his producing partner Matt Dines. “American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson” writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski will be penning the script with Rick Yorn.

A production start date for the movie has yet to be announced.
