Ever since Todd Phillip’s Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix released, fans have been clamouring for a sequel. Based on the popular DC character, the 2019 film won Phoenix an Oscar for his towering performance. And now, the upcoming sequel film has an exciting new update. Lady Gaga is reportedly in talks to play Harley Quinn in Joker 2.
As per reports in The Hollywood Reporter, Lady Gaga is being eyed to play Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck aka Joker. Apart from the huge casting update, it has also been revealed that the film will be a musical. While a deal has not been made yet, Lady Gaga would be a perfect casting choice for a Joker musical.
In the DCEU, Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn and was last seen in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. However, since Todd Phillips films are not tied to the DCEU, it leaves the role open for a new star. And that could very well be Lady Gaga.
Just last week, Todd Phillips revealed that Joker 2 will be titled Joker: Folie à deux. The term refers to a mental disorder that two people share. He also shared a picture of the script’s cover page along with a photo of Joaquin Phoenix.
It remains to be seen if Lady Gaga will be cast in Joker 2.
