Nadiya Hussain, Katie Piper and Fearne Cotton are leading the charge for World Book Night this April.

From 7pm to 8pm on Sunday 23 April, they’re inviting the nation to take part in #ReadingHour – a chance to spend some time with a great book.

To encourage everyone to take part, organisers, The Reading Agency, will be gifting over 68,000 books to organisations across the country including care homes, hospitals, mental health groups and prisons.

Some of the great titles handed out include those by fan favourite authors, Ann Napolitano, Jojo Moyes, Bernardine Evaristo and Agatha Christie.

The initiative started back in 2020, during the first national lockdown, when the estimated social media reach of #WorldBookNight and #ReadingHour was 14.3 million people.

Each year, World Book Night picks out their own titles, but they also recommend a selected selected group of quick reads for those who are looking to dip their toes back in to reading. Short reads include Hello Mum by Bernardine Evaristo, and The Double Clue: And Other Hercule Poirot Stories by Agatha Christie.

Nadiya Hussain said: ‘To me personally, reading means so much: it allows me to transport into a world outside of my own. Through reading, I can carve out a physical time for myself to do something that I really enjoy.’

Fearne Cotton also gave a shoutout to her favourite read.

She said: ‘From the list, I’m especially excited about Maybe I Don’t Belong Here by David Harewood, which I encourage everyone to pick up and read.’
